Decide whether the slab is worth keeping
Start with the survey and the complete pad footprint. Playing lines alone do not include the space needed to slow down, reach a ball or move around equipment. Locate existing utilities, access routes and drainage before committing to the court position.

Separate coating wear from slab trouble
A wide driveway, unused patio or older sport court can be a starting point. Measure its usable rectangle and inspect slope, joints, cracking and drainage. A surface that looks flat in a photo can still be unsuitable for play.
